Melanie Jayne Lynskey was born 16 May 1977 in New Zealand. She is known for her distinctive voice, which is soft and confident. She is mostly seen in independent films. Her awards include the New Zealand Film Award, a Hollywood Film Award and a Sundance Special Jury Award, in addition to Gotham Award, Golden Nymph Award Critics' Choice Award and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations.
